Cambridge Refugee Support Group Archive
The Cambridge Refugee Support Group (CRSG)was established as a charity in 1999 with a three-fold aim of supporting the welfare, education and training of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants located within Cambridge and surrounding areas. This included both hardship and healthcare support alongside the advancement of education and training opportunities. The CRSG focused on:
Relieving disadvantage of Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Migrants through advocacy, tuition to improve spoken and written English and to develop life skills and assisting them to integrate into the wider community through the provision of activities and events. (Charity Commission of England and Wales, 2009).
The UEL Archives also hold the related collections associated Dr. Louise Pirouet and Charter 87. Dr. Pirouet was a key member of the Cambridge Refugee Support Group and was the founder and coordinator of Charter 87 (Barringer, 2013), a human rights group in existence between the years 1987 and 1997.
