Newham Monitoring Project & The Anti-Racist Fight in East London

As part of Local History Month 2019, join Eastside Community Heritage for a workshop and discussion about the Newham Monitoring Project, the history of anti-racist organising in East London over the past fifty years and how we can use this in the present day fight.

Set up in 1980 in response to racial violence and the rise of the National Front across the borough, the Newham Monitoring Project lobbied police and MPs on a range of issues and set up an advice centre in 1982. Join us at the University of East London Library and Archives to find out more about the history of anti-racist organising in Newham and across East London through this workshop and discussion, including the opportunity to listen to oral history clips from our East London People’s Archive.
