Living Refugee Archive

The Living Refugee Archive (LRA) is home to a growing collection of resources relating to refugees and forced migration.  The Living Refugee Archive was originally established as part of a civic engagement project entitled `Democratic Acces or Privileged Exclusion: Civic Engagement through the Preservation of and Access to Refugee Archives” with the aim of enabling access and encouraging engagement with archival collections documenting the lived experience of migration.  Our aim is to help facilitate access to a growing collection of living Archives hosted on a dedicated digital library platform (powered by Omeka) embedded witin the Living Refugee Archive, whilst also supporting existing archival collections including the Refugee Council Archive at the University of East London.

The Living Refugee Archive also takes an active role in working with communities and supporting community-based participatory archiving projects which help to documenting the lived experience and shared heritage of communties who have experienced displacement, whilst recognising the importance of enabling communties to have a voice in their social, legal and political empowerment.
