The number of refugees and asylum seekers in the United Kingdom, across Europe and across the world has increased dramatically since 2015. As a discipline and a profession, psychology has a wealth of knowledge, experience and talent to apply in this area to help improve the lives of those who have fled their countries and are seeking safety.

This event takes place on World Refugee Day, 20th June 2018, to launch the British Psychological Society’s Guidelines for psychologists working with refugee and asylum seekers in the UK, together with the Guidelines for working with interpreters. These guidance documents are important, not only for frontline psychologists and others working in the field, but also for practitioners in related disciplines.

The event will also be of interest to directors, managers and practitioners of organisations working with refugees and migrants and providing services to this population in the UK, or to anyone with a particular interest in this area. Speakers and workshop convenors are experts in the field and include Professor Jamie Hacker Hughes, Professor Rachel Tribe, Dr. Kate Thompson, Rani Nagulandram, Dr. Anne Douglas, Professor Bill Yule, Dr. Halit Hulusi, Maurice Wren, Nursel Tas and Professor Nimisha Patel.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided, with networking opportunities throughout the day. Further details regarding parallel workshop options will be available in early May on the British Psychological Society’s website.
