The case for London’s Latin Quarter: Retention, growth and sustainability.
By Latin Elephant.

Latin Elephant, a charity that promotes ways of including migrant and ethnic groups – particularly Latin Americans – in London’s urban change has published The Case for London’s Latin Quarter. It makes the case for a Latin Quarter in a redeveloped Elephant and Castle in Southwark, south London.

The report highlights key development opportunities, including:

  • A Latin Boulevard
  • Food and craft markets
  • A Community Hub
  • Arts and Events

Southwark Council, which is leading a £3bn redevelopment of the Elephant and Castle has endorsed the report. Regeneration cabinet member Cllr Mark Williams, says:

“The Latin American businesses at the Elephant are recognised across London as an important part of what makes this area so special and help create a vibrant and truly diverse community at the Elephant and Castle. Developers, businesses, the council and it partners all have a role to play in ensuring we build on what is best about Elephant and Castle…

“There are some great ideas in this report about how to help make this happen and we will keep working with everyone who is able to contribute as the regeneration of the Elephant continues”.
